Two and a half year old class
Monday and Wednesday 9:00-11:30

The 2.5-year-program focuses on:
Self Help Skills and Social/Emotional Development: We will nurture your child’s social, emotional and intellectual development. We will help the children separate from their parents. We want them to know school is a happy and safe place. The children will begin the process of learning to thoroughly wash and dry their hands. We encourage children to use words to communicate their needs. Cooperative group play is encouraged.
Early Math Skills: Children will be introduced through play, to numbers, shapes and early counting.
Language Arts: Children will sit and listen at circle time. They may talk about different pictures they see in the book, what it looks like people or animals are doing in the book and learn that pictures have meaning.
Science: The 2.5’s will be encouraged to ask questions about our world and to do simple scientific experiments.
Each month, the 2.5’s focus is on a different color. We reinforce color recognition by painting and mixing colors.
Social Studies: Teachers will explain to children classroom rules and the reasons for these rules. They will be introduced to community workers at this time.
Fine and Gross Motor Development: The children will engage in active play (both inside in our gym and outside on the playground) using gross motor skills including running, jumping, and throwing and catching a ball.
Using fine motor skills, the 2.5’s classes work on grasping markers and large crayons. They will work on puzzles and pulling apart toys that link together to better develop their fine motor skills.
Fine Arts: During circle time, the children will participate in dance, drama and music activities; they will participate in art activities by using self expression with art tools and different mediums.
