Three Year Old Class
Tuesday and Thursday 9:00-11:30
Children must be 3 by September 1

The 3-year-program focuses on:
Self Help Skills and Social/Emotional Development: We will nurture your child’s social, emotional and intellectual development. We will help the children separate from their parents. We want them to know school is a happy and safe place. The children will learn to wash hands, recognize their names by taking attendance and locate their placemats and their cubbies. The children begin pouring their own juice; they clean up after snack and put classroom materials away. We encourage children to listen to directions and use words to communicate their needs. Cooperative group play is encouraged. Adapting to changes in routine, using classroom equipment respectfully, using acceptable ways to resolve conflicts and acting independently in caring for personal hygiene needs are but a few of the self help skills children will learn.
Early Math Skills: Children will be introduced to the use of numbers, including number recognition, counting with understanding, one-to-one correspondence, sequencing, sorting, patterns and geometric shapes.
Language Arts: Children will begin to understand reading progression and that pictures have meaning and people can write or draw to convey information. We will encourage children to discuss stories, identify characters and give definitions of the words, “author and illustrator”.
Science: The 3’s will talk about the weather and use common weather-related vocabulary (rainy, snowy, sunny, windy), they will begin to identify basic concepts associated with night/day and seasons. They will be encouraged to ask questions about our world and to do simple scientific experiments.
Each month, the threes focus is on a different color. We reinforce color recognition by painting and mixing colors.
Social Studies: Teachers will explain to children classroom rules and the reasons for these rules. They will be able to identify community workers and the services they provide.
Fine and Gross Motor Development: The children will engage in active play (both inside in our gym and outside on the playground) using gross motor skills including running, jumping, riding a bike, and throwing and catching a ball.
Using fine motor skills, the three’s classes work on improving their cutting skills and learn to hold scissors correctly. These children will be encouraged to practice writing their names.
Fine Arts: During circle time, the children will participate in dance, drama and music activities; they will participate in art activities by using self expression with art tools and different mediums.
