History

Our State Licensed Program Features:
History of Swing Set Preschool:
The idea of a preschool school in the church was first presented to the Congregational United Church of Christ (CUCC) Board of Religious Education by Rozella Nagy, wife of the Pastor. The first meeting of the organizing Board was held May 23, 1972. The Board of Trustees offered $500 to defray the beginning costs of a school. The school began in September 1973, with 14 four year olds and 9 three year olds. The year began without a name for the school. Possible names were suggested by the students. Over the course of the year, the name, Swing Set Preschool, was chosen.
Our Relationship to the Congregational United Church of Christ:
Swing Set Preschool is a community outreach program of the Congregational United Church of Christ. While Swing Set Preschool and the CUCC have a wonderful, positive working relationship, all day to day decisions are made by the Director of the preschool. The preschool and the church are affiliated; however, the church does not dictate how and what should be taught at the school. The CUCC has always felt that the Director of the school and the team of staff would make decisions that would benefit the students and families best.
In order to effectively run a successful program, Swing Set Preschool created an Advisory Board, similar to that of a PTO. On the Advisory Board, a representative of the Christian Education Committee from the CUCC provides oversight for the preschool program. The CE Board member is responsible for reporting activities at Swing Set Preschool to the rest of the church acting somewhat as a liaison. Should either Board seek the support of the other, the two Boards will work together to establish solutions or clarifications.
The Senior Pastor and Children’s Ministry Coordinator are Ex-officio non-voting members of the Swing Set Preschool Advisory Board. The Senior Pastor , Children's Ministry Coordinator, Advisory Board President and Advisory Board Vice-Preseident will be involved in the hiring and supervising of the Swing Set Preschool Director.
